The Clare Rose Center for Creative Youth Development

Clare Rose invests in leadership and infrastructure to convene, connect, and curate the resources, relationships, and opportunities needed to strengthen the Creative Youth Development field using a collective action approach.

2014:

Clare Rose Foundation makes its first investment in Creative Youth Development with a $5,000 grant to a single CYD organization.

2017:

Clare Rose Foundation launches a Creative Youth Development Initiative, inspired by the work being done by the National Partnership for Creative Youth Development and their National Action Blueprint, to grow our grantmaking to CYD organizations and provide leadership in establishing collective action to strengthen the field of CYD.

In an effort to help meet the field-building goals of the National Action Blueprint, the Clare Rose Foundation takes a lead role as a co-founder, funding partner, driver, and convener of the San Diego Creative Youth Development Network, working closely with local organizations and partners to build and strengthen the field of CYD locally and serve as a model of collection action that can be replicated regionally and nationally.

Our philanthropic giving grows to provide multi-year general operating support to 6 CYD organizations.

2020:

The Clare Rose Center for Creative Youth Development is established in response to ongoing needs and opportunities in the Creative Youth Development field, including:

  • an intermediary and fiscal sponsor to hold projects and collaborative programs
  • an entity to secure larger collective grants and contracts that small, individual, community-based organizations wouldn’t be eligible for on their own
  • an intermediary for like-minded funders to pool funds and invest in the field-building work CRF is leading

The Center is structured to scale the work of the Foundation and build capacity for the field of CYD, based on feedback and input from our partners.

The Foundation’s giving grows again to support more than 8 CYD organizations and programs with multi-year general operating support, and launches technical assistance grants,  responsive grants, grants for individual Teaching Artists, as well as strategic sponsorships that increase awareness and engagement in the field of CYD.

The Creative Youth Development Initiative was created in 2017 by the Clare Rose Foundation and Matt D’Arrigo, Founder and former CEO of A Reason to Survive (ARTS). It was inspired by the work being done by the National Partnership for Creative Youth Development and their National Action Blueprint on how to strengthen the field of CYD on a national level.

To be successful, the Partnership is depending on local community leaders and networks to adopt and implement the National Action Blueprint. Clare Rose Foundation decided to lead the way in the hopes to deepen local impact and become a model to influence and inform other regional and national networks.

The Clare Rose Foundation is a lead funding partner, driver, and convener of the San Diego Creative Youth Development Network, working together to build the capacity of organizations and their leaders to strengthen the field of CYD.
